The MH2E21 myc protein differs from chicken c-myc and MH2 virus v-myc. [1] constucted various mutants of MH2E21 that expressed variant myc proteins. [1] describes the construction and isolation of the MH2E21 retrovirus. The MH2E21 virus appears to be a recombinant between ring-necked pheasant virus and a deletion mutant of MH2 that was constructed in vitro. The MH2E21 virus lacks gag, pol and env genes, and thus needs a helper virus to reproduce.
