The hpl-1 and hpl-2 genes are probably not transcribed because restriction enzyme analysis of placental mRNA failed to detect the fragments predicted by these genes [2]. hpl-4 is transcribed and a cDNA to its mRNA has been sequenced . The mRNA for hpl-3 sequenced by [2] is from the allele to the hpl-3 gene sequenced by [1]. The alleles can be distinguished by restriction site differences. In the region sequenced [2] claims only one allelic difference (base 552), so other differences between the sequences have been marked as conflicts. hpl genes are closely related to human growth hormone (hgh) genes.
