The relative specific antiviral activities of IFN-alpha-A and IFN-alpha-I' differ significantly on cells of different species, while they are comparable on human cells. The only differences between the interferon-alpha type I and type I' are at position 219, where a 'c' in type I is replaced with an 'a' in type I', changing a proline to a histidine, and at position 571, where a type I 't' is replaced by type I' 'c', in which case the amino acid remains a serine. A putative polyadenylation signal is located at positions 963-968.
