After ligand binding to the receptor, the resulting complex is internalized and transported to a sorting organelle, where receptor and ligand are disassociated. The receptor then returns to the cell membrane surface. The membrane spanning region of the protein is encoded by nucleotides 300 to 356. This region might function as an internal hydrophobic membrane insertion signal. There is no proteolytic processing of the protein and no signal peptide. [1] is not sure of the 5' end of the mRNA.
