TITLE Transcriptome analysis of predator- and prey-induced phenotypic plasticity in the Hokkaido salamander (Hynobius retardatus) JOURNAL Mol. Ecol. 24, 3064-3076 (2015) REMARK DOI:10.1111/mec.13228 COMMENT We carried out two different experiments, a tadpole experiment and a dragonfly experiment, each consisting of a treatment group and a control group. In the tadpole experiment, 7-day-old salamander hatchlings were individually assigned to plastic enclosures containing 10 small tadpoles as inducers (i.e., tadpole-exposure treatments) or to enclosures without tadpoles (i.e., tadpole controls). In the dragonfly experiment, the sides of plastic enclosures were perforated with small holes and the 10 enclosures were put into tanks containing 2 L of aged tap water. Thus, all enclosures in the same tank shared the same water. We assigned a 7-day-old salamander larva to each of nine enclosures in every tank. In the dragonfly-exposure treatment, a dragonfly nymph was placed in the remaining enclosure. In the dragonfly control treatment, the tenth enclosure was left empty. We collected tissue samples for the transcriptome analysis at three census time points (0 h, 12 h, and 7 days). We dissected the salamander larvae from each experiment and sampled tissues from the brain and from those body parts that were changed drastically in the experiment (tadpole experiment, head excluding the brain; dragonfly experiment, gills and tail). We pooled the sampled tissues from 2-5 individuals. ##Assembly-Data-START## Assembly Method :: Trinity v. 2013-2-25 Sequencing Technology :: Hiseq2000 ##Assembly-Data-END## FEATURES Location/Qualifiers source 1..206 /country="Japan" /db_xref="taxon:36312" /dev_stage="larvae" /mol_type="mRNA" /note="contig: comp7835365_c0_seq1" /organism="Hynobius retardatus" /tissue_type="mixture of brain, gill, head, tail" BASE COUNT 91 a 22 c 28 g 65 t ORIGIN 1 aaacatttaa aaatcacata tttaaggtga atacatgcaa ttttattaaa atattaaagt 61 tatttgcaaa tattacacag gtgaaatata attaaactga gaattcaaaa acacctaagg 121 gatatattaa ggaatatgtt atgaagggct acacattatt aatgaccaat tttcttctga 181 aatatgtgct atcaaggaaa taaaag //
